Middleton Hall’s Co-Owners going the distance for charity in the Great North Run

Middleton Hall Retirement Village co-owners Nicola and Nicole are gearing up for a remarkable challenge as they prepare to participate in the Great North Run, raising funds for two significant causes close to their hearts.

Nicola- Housekeeping supervisor, is dedicating her run to Dementia UK, a charity known for providing specialist, life changing dementia care.

She explains, “This year, I have decided to take part in the Great North Run to raise money for Dementia UK. Over the last few years, I have seen the difference the right support can make to people living with dementia and their families.” Dementia UK nurses play a crucial role in providing life-changing care to families affected by dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, helping individuals maintain their independence and supporting caregivers through the challenging times”

Meanwhile, Nicole- Middleton Oaks Support Worker is running in memory of her mother and stepmother, both of whom she lost to cancer. She is raising funds for Cruse Bereavement Support, an organisation that played a vital role in helping her cope with her loss. “I lost my mum on 18th February 2019 and my step-mum on 22nd April 2023, both to cancer. I have really struggled with the bereavement after them both, and Cruse Bereavement are the ones who supported me through this,” Nicole shared. She highlighted the organisation’s reliance on volunteers and the importance of their often under-recognised work.

In preparation for the run, Nicola and Nicole have been training hard, their practice runs have not only helped them build endurance but also allowed them to enjoy the lovely views, providing a peaceful backdrop to their dedication and hard work.

Supporters can contribute to their fundraising efforts through their respective donation pages, helping both Dementia UK and Cruse Bereavement continue their essential work.
