Middleton Hall Shines as Car Show Triumphs

What a fantastic day at the Middleton Hall Retirement Village Car Show! Under the beaming sun, the event brought together residents, co-owners, and members of the public.

The day was a celebration of classic cars, featuring an impressive array of vintage vehicles courtesy of the Teesside Yesteryear Motor Club. Their dedication to preserving automotive history was on full display, with everything from elegant pre-war models to sleek 1960s classics. Each car told its own story, adding a touch of nostalgia and charm to the occasion.

A thank you also goes out to the Great North Air Ambulance Service, whose participation added an extra purpose to the event. Their presence highlighted the vital work they do and provided a meaningful connection to the community.

Mary, an independent property owner, showcased her classic car drawings in the Pavilion, where people enjoyed both her artwork and learning about her story. She began drawing vintage cars after passing her driving test, while studying fashion illustration at Leeds College of Art. During that time, she spent most weekends sketching any cars she could find. In the 1950s, she moved to London to pursue a career in couture fashion. To support herself financially, she accepted paid commissions to sketch vintage cars as mementos for their owners, with each drawing taking 2-3 hours to complete. The eventual success of her fashion business ended her career as a car artist.
