Serving it up at Middleton Hall’s table tennis group

Whilst there are many activities and clubs to be a part of here at Middleton Hall Retirement Village, our table tennis group is very popular amongst independent residents. The group is run by care director Colin, who has played table tennis for a number of years and is now passing his knowledge and skills on to residents in a weekly sessions.

It isn’t uncommon at Middleton Hall for residents in their 70s, 80s, 90s+ to take up a new hobby or learn something new. Our team encourage everyone to get involved in activities and use the facilities for significant benefits to physical and mental well-being…Taking up a hobby during retirement is proven to make life more enjoyable and table tennis alone has many benefits:

  • Improved hand-eye coordination
  • Easy on the joints- It’s a great way to improve your leg, arm and core strength without overtaxing your joints
  • A great social sport- table tennis offers a great way to bond with other people, improve communication and build relationships, irrespective of age
  • Helps you learn new skills with other likeminded individuals who share your passion
  • Keeps your brain sharp- Alzheimer’s Weekly reports a clear increase in motor skills and cognitive awareness from playing table tennis, after a series of preliminary clinical studies in Japan found that table tennis markedly increases the flow of blood to the brain, and could possibly even prevent dementia.
  • Improves balance- Staying balanced and being able to quickly change direction are key to being successful in table tennis

The club runs from 5.30pm – 7pm in the Pavilion on a Wednesday if you would like to attend!
