Ride of Their Lives fundraising event for Macmillan Cancer Support

The daughter of Middleton Hall Retirement Village Co-owner Jane Johnson is taking on the challenge of racing round the famous Knavesmire course in York in front of 25,000 spectators to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Bethany will be one of twelve amateur jockeys taking part in The Ernest Cooper Macmillan Ride of Their Lives race at The Macmillan Charity Race day at York Racecourse on June 11th 2022.

She is taking part to support Macmillan Cancer Support after her mum was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2017 and had to undergo four rounds of chemotherapy treatments at James Cook hospital.

Bethany explained: “Macmillan played a huge part in our journey from providing support as simple as serving tea and biscuits within the ward to giving emotional and financial advice and support. I am forever grateful for everyone involved, including the doctors and nurses, who have made it possible that my mum is here to watch me take part in this race.”

Over the next few months Bethany will be focusing on fitness and racing training as well as raising as much money as she can to allow others to access the support Macmillan offered to her family in their time of need.
