A well deserved medal for a Waterside resident

Our Waterside resident Susan has been awarded the Paul Harris Fellow recognition medal for her past services to the Alnwick community whilst part of the Alnwick Rotary International.

A true Rotarian is a person whose activities make the world a better place as a result of their work and effort, with their motto expressing ‘Service above self’. Susan went above and beyond what is normally expected, with her hard work including councillor roles, involvement in Alnwick in bloom, litter picking and more.

She was awarded the medal at a Rotary lunch in Alnwick with Professor Joy Palmer-Cooper, current president of Alnwick Rotary International. The gold medallion on blue and gold ribbon is only awarded to 150 people each year.

Susan’s work started long before her and husband Ian moved to Middleton Hall in 2017. Whilst living in Bamburgh, she joined a local group of 6 ladies and began litter picking along the beach, after years of commitment to the area, Susan then moved to Alnwick where the demand for litter pickers remained and litter seemed to be becoming an increasing issue…her hard work and persistence saw many changes implemented wherever she went!

Susan now goes litter picking independently almost every day around Middleton St George.

The catalyst for her work is to ensure nature remains intact and unspoilt by issues such as litter, with the bonus aspect of being able to spend time outdoors and remain active.

What a great achievement, a big congratulations to Susan.
